Tax Reform
With over 20 volumes and an estimated 76,000 pages, our current tax code has become too complex. We spend billions of dollars each year just to comply with the always changing income tax code.
I support the FairTax which will no longer tax our labor and capital. The FairTax is a flat consumption tax (or national sales tax) that taxes you only once at the retail level. The FairTax eliminates all payroll taxes and income taxes and replaces them with one simple, transparent, border neutral, industry neutral, fair tax.
47% of Americans who file tax returns pay $0 income tax and many of these people get money back. That leaves the rest of us who file, 53%, footing the bill for our government. If we want to be able to fund Social Security, Medicare and even pay down our national debt, along with creating jobs in America again, we need REAL tax reform. We Need the FairTax.

Social Security & Medicare
According to the Trustee's report release this year for Medicare and Social Security, The Medicare Trust Fund will be depleted by 2017 and the Social Security Trust Fund will be depleted by 2027. Medicare, which is in worse shape than Social Security, paid out more in benefits last year than it received in taxes. Social Security isn't far behind though, current projections show that it will start paying more in benefits than what it receives in taxes by 2016.
What is worse is that, by law, both Trust funds are required to buy US Government Securities with any surpluses they received in any fiscal year. This only increases our National Debt since the money from the bonds is quickly spent by our government.

National Security
We need to provide the protection needed to keep this Nation safe.
We need to continue to invest in future weapon systems, giving us the needed capability to protect our Nation from the ever changing threat landscape.
Veterans: Having served our country, and being a veteran myself, I will fight hard for veterans rights and issues.
The 2nd Amendment
I support the right to own and bear arms as a personal and absolute right.
Energy Independence
We must attack this problem from all available angles.
First we need to to remove the government regulations preventing the development of our natural resources. This will enable US companies to begin off-shore drilling, drilling in Alaska's ANWR wildlife refuge, develop and explore for natural gas, as well as develop a cleaner method for burning coal.
At the same time we need to develop sustainable and cleaner forms of energy. This will also include a rebuilding of the power grid infrastructure to adapt to these new sources of energy. These should include Nuclear, Wind, Hydro-electric, Solar, Hydrogen, Clean Coal and Fuel Cell technologies

Education
Where we once led the world in education, this is no longer true. Our lead has slowly eroded over the years and recently test scores for 4th 8th and 12th grade students were released that ranked the US 19th out of 38 countries in Math, and 18th out of 38 countries in Science.
The State of Tennessee was also recently ranked as 42nd nationally. This was based on national test score results for Math, Science and Reading.
Nationally we spend $500 Billion dollars a year on education, which amounts to approximately $10,000 per student. The national graduation rate is 70% and the student to teacher ratio is 16 -1.
The State of Tennessee's budget for education is approximately $7.2 Billion dollars and averages $7300 dollars per student, has a graduation rate of 72% and a student to teacher ratio of 15.7 - 1.
Immigration
Currently we have 10 to 11 Million undocumented illegal aliens that exist inside our borders. Immigration reform is necessary to ensure our security, protect our jobs as well as stabilize our economy. We need to reform the current immigration laws that were written in the 1950s to reflect the current threat environment we face today. Some of the solutions needed are listed below:
Secure our Borders - This needs to be the first step to stop the flow of undocumented illegal aliens into our country.
Create a guest worker program - designed to register illegal aliens who wish to work in the United States. This program would provide a needed tax revenue stream and eliminate the financial burden placed on our infrastructure by illegal aliens. This is not a path to citizenship. They need to get in line to start the legal process if that is their desire.
Limited Government
To quote former President Ronald Reagan: "A Government which governs least, governs best."
We need to return the powers that have been taken by our Federal government back to the States and the people, as stated in the 10th amendment of our Constitution.
Governments and political leaders are best held accountable to the will of the people when government is local.

Health Care
There is a problem with healthcare in America, but I don’t think that creating a HUGE government run system is the answer. The problem with healthcare is cost. There are many ways we can address cost without creating a big government solution. What we need to do is to get the providers of healthcare competing on price. An example of this is Lasik surgery. When this procedure first came out it cost @$10,000. It was also not covered and is still not covered under health insurance plans. Yet today the cost is @$500. The reduction in cost is due to the fact that the providers of this procedure had to compete on price.
